The SHIM-ME system can be used for both windows and doors. The units must be installed prior to final window or door installation.

The install

Four steps, in order.

  1. 01

    Installing the base plates

Locate the sill pan and place it over the location where you intend to install your door or window. Lower it slowly and set it into place, then locate the corner and place the first base plate.

    • 01Place the base plate a couple of inches from the end, flat face facing down.
    • 02Drill the two anchor holes with a power drill and a 1/4" bit.
    • 03Secure the base plate using anchors suited to your application — check your project requirements for the correct type.
    • 04Repeat for the remaining base plates, spacing each set at a maximum of eight inches edge to edge.
    • 05Fully secure all base plates, then apply waterproofing — make sure both the anchors and the base plates are fully sealed.
  2. 02

Installing the base and adjustable wedge

The base wedge slides onto the base plate. Set it in front of the plate, match the bottom slots, and slide it into place flush with the base plate.

    • 01Secure the base wedge with the provided screw and tighten fully with a Phillips screwdriver.
    • 02Attach the adjustable wedge by sliding it onto the base wedge, matching the slots.
    • 03Sliding the wedge to fully cover all grooves sets the lowest possible height — about 1 1/4".
    • 04To raise it, pull the adjustable wedge out and slide it to the next notch. Each slot adjusts the height by about 1/16".
    • 05The maximum adjustable height is about 1 3/4". Measure from the top of the shim assembly to the finished floor with a tape measure.
    • 06Once at the required height, secure the adjustable wedge to the base wedge with the provided screw and tighten fully.
  3. 03

Installing the optional extension and thermal break

The assembly can be extended for extra height. SHIM-ME includes a half-inch extension for projects that need to go past 1 3/4". If no extension is required, skip to the thermal break.

    • 01To fit the extension, slide it onto the adjustable wedge, matching the notches, and secure it with the provided screw.
    • 02The thermal break installs either to the half-inch extension or directly to the adjustable wedge.
    • 03Slide the bottom notches onto the assembly, ease it into place, and secure it with the provided screw.
    • 04Repeat for the remaining SHIM-ME assemblies as required.
  4. 04

Installing the window or door rail

Once every assembly is fully secured and waterproofed, you can fit the rail. Place the bottom window or door rail on top of the SHIM-ME assemblies and lower it slowly into place over the thermal break.

    • 01Secure the rail using the required anchors, inserting them through the rail and into the SHIM-ME assemblies.
    • 02Fully secure the anchors as required.
    • 03Install windows or doors per your project specifications.
